Elizabeth McCoy Hayward Papers, 1919-1977.s.

The Elizabeth McCoy Hayward (EMH) Papers cover the periods 1919-1923 and 1938-1977 and contain correspondence, scrapbook material, reports, newspaper clippings, and articles which document EMH's undergraduate years at Simmons College and her years as an active member and officer of the Simmons College Alumnae Association, for which she received the Alumnae Service Award in 1972. EMH graduated from Simmons in 1923 with a Bachelor's degree in Library Science and worked as a children's librarian in the East Orange (NJ) Public Library in 1924. The collection is concentrated into two periods: EMH's student activity, 1919-1923, which documents in diary and scrapbook form her associations with other students, her experiences off-campus, and her attitudes about college events; and her alumnae activity, 1938-1975, which documents via correspondence with College administrators the concern of an alumna involved with fundraising and the national image of the College. Researchers should note that EMH, at some point in time, prearranged, sorted, and annotated her papers.
